    Wade Richard McCotter

    – June 23, 2020

    Mr. Wade Richard McCotter, age 52, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2020 in Westlock, Alberta. Wade is survived by his sons: Brett and Kash; Mother, Joanne; one brother, Randy as well as other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Rick McCotter.
    Wade struggled for many years with POEMS Syndrome proving his strength and perseverance time and again, often with humor and a “no big deal” attitude.
    Due to the current covid situation, a public Celebration of Life Service will be considered in the future. Wade was cremated as per his wishes.
    The family wishes to thank the staff at the Westlock Healthcare Center, the Cross Cancer Institute and the Pembina Lodge. Also, Dr. Coma, for his excellent care throughout Wade’s Journey.

    355 WHL graduates awarded WHL Scholarships for fall academic semester

    Calgary, AB – Western Hockey League (WHL) Commissioner Ron Robison announced today that to date a total of 355 WHL graduate players have been awarded WHL Scholarships for the fall semester of the 2016-17 academic year. The 355 WHL Scholarships awarded represent the highest total for the fall academic season in WHL history, improving upon a mark set last year.

    This year, 202 of the 355 WHL Scholarship recipients are furthering their education while playing Canadian University hockey at the U Sports level. In Western Canada, 142 of these student-athletes are playing in the Canada West Conference (CWUAA), and have in many cases combined their WHL Scholarship with additional financial assistance from their institution to receive the Western Canada Premier Hockey Scholarship.

    WHL Scholarship recipients are enrolled this year as full-time students at 67 different post-secondary institutions throughout North America.

    The University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, SK) leads the way with 39 WHL graduates enrolled in full-time studies while 36 former WHL players are registered at the University of Alberta (Edmonton, AB). The University of British Columbia (26), University of Lethbridge (26),
