Hispanic Heritage Month takes place each year from September 15 to October 15, commemorating the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans. With celebrations of all shapes and sizes across the U.S., this Hispanic Heritage Month is a great time to engage students in learning and discussion about the contributions and history of Hispanic Americans and Latinx people. For a brief discussion of the difference between the terms “Hispanic” and “Latinx,” as well as the historical background of Hispanic Heritage Month, be sure to check out our previous blog post on Teaching Hispanic Heritage Month. You’ll find helpful information AND even more resources!
How can you experience the celebration in your classroom and beyond? Check out our curated list of resources for lessons, activities and more. Plus, we recommend participating in a few of the events happening around the state. Though events are usually outside of school hours, this is a great opportunity to encourage students to connect with their community and for teachers to get ideas to bring back to the classroom.
